At JDR Software, we feel it’s important to contribute to the Higher Education industry in any way we can. Our July 2024 WIL (Work Integrated Learning) participants are Mehak Garg, Joy El-Hayek and Anshu Madhikarmi.

July 2024 WIL Student – Mehak

Mehak

Mehak has joined the JDR Software team whilst in her final year at  Deakin University and has shown enormous enthusiasm to get involved in not just the work aspects of the internship, but appreciate and participate in the company culture. Coming to Australia to study a Bachelor’s in Software Engineering, from the moment she arrived she had her sights set on this internship.

When I spotted the job opening, my first instinct was to boldly reach out to CEO Rohit on LinkedIn and everyone that I knew at my university. It was a gutsy move, but it paid off.

She has found it exciting to see how the concepts she’s learned are applied to solving clients’ issues and are used in testing. Given the nature of our business, it also gives students a peak into the complexities of class registration and scheduling.

As a student, I would have never guessed the amount of work that goes into the timetable we choose.

During her time here with us, Mehak’s goal is to learn more and keep improving. And provides the following advice for other interns, “I firmly believe that it’s always better to try, to ask questions, and to venture into new things. Hesitation only leads to regrets or wondering “what if.” The worst that can happen is you get a no or you fail. But those outcomes are far better than living with missed opportunities.”

It’s rewarding to hear our interns speak so fondly of their time here.

What truly sets this place apart is the constant buzz of laughter and friendly chatter. It’s a refreshing change from the usual corporate grind, making every day here exciting and enjoyable.

Joy

Joy joins us from RMIT University where she is currently completing her 3rd year of a Bachelor of Software Engineering degree.

July 2024 WIL Student – Joy

She hopes during her time here with us that she can see turn the skills she had learned in theory into practise. By observing and being a part of the SDLC Joy will have the chance to learn more about the whole process of developing, testing, maintaining, and deploying an application.

We can see already that Joy is keen to get involved in activities beyond the ‘JD’. Keen to network and meet and learn from others, she has been welcomed as a participant in some of the JDR social club activities. Possibly a skill she is enhancing from her involvement in the RMIT Astronomy society.

Joy has long been fascinated by space. Being part of this club allows her to delve deeper into her passion while sharpening her academic skills in Cyber Security. This is a field she aims to pursue professionally. Her enthusiasm for cybersecurity mirrors her fascination with the intricacies of space exploration. Both presenting a universe of endless challenges and opportunities for discovery.

Anshu

July 2024 WIL Student – Anshu

Finally we have Anshu, a dedicated third-year Bachelor of Computer Science student at Deakin University. With a keen interest in technology and a drive to make a meaningful impact, Anshu brings a wealth of enthusiasm and expertise to our team.

During his Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) placement, Anshu is eager to gain hands-on experience in real-world IT projects. He looks forward to collaborating with our talented team, soaking up knowledge, and honing practical skills. Anshu has embraced the open and friendly culture at JDR Software, where he aims to contribute in a meaningful manner to our projects and leave a positive impression.

Anshu’s career aspirations are rooted in software development and cloud infrastructure. He is passionate about advancing his skills within our organisation, and hopes to one day work on large-scale technological initiatives. Beyond his immediate goals, Anshu is deeply committed to leveraging technology for humanitarian efforts. Particularly in disaster management—a passion he actively pursues alongside a Deakin professor.

Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Anshu finds inspiration in anime and comics. These fuel his creativity and problem-solving abilities. He isn’t just your average IT whiz—he’s also a Rubik’s Cube maestro! Zipping through the colorful puzzle in under a minute! This knack for problem-solving isn’t just a hobby; it’s a sneak peek into his career ambitions. Just as he thrives on cracking the cube’s code, Anshu aims to unravel complex software challenges and scale the heights of cloud infrastructure.
